Seashell Critters
If you love seashell decor and you love to collect seashells but sometimes wonder what to do with all these lovely treasures, just have a look at these lovely seashell critters you can create (especially with your kids!) – I came across these whilst browsing the Internet and found them absolutely adorable…
It is a very simple seashell decor idea but I think it is very effective – it will definitely bring out the kid in you!
Just click on the picture and it will take you to the page where you find instructions on how to do it. It’s really super easy! Don’t you just love these little faces – and I am sure your kids will enjoy them, too!
If you think about it, you could even create Christmas Ornaments with these – just add little beards made from cotton wool and add little red felt hats… Be inspired, there are so many ways to create unique seashell decor!
Last October I had my parents visiting me from Germany. They loved to go to the beaches here and walk along the shores of the Indian Ocean. On their leisurely holiday strolls they also found quite a collection of seashells (well, most of them were collected by two very keen little shell seekers, also called grandchildren
). Because of that fact, even quite unsuspecting seashells were treasured very much by my parents.
Now, I have to say that both of them are not very artistic (sorry, guys!). Not at all. So I was even more surprised when my dad emailed me a few months after their visit and attached a picture of what they had done with all these shells. It literally blew me away! Why hadn’t I had an idea like that?? – Here is what they did:

Seashell Art
Now isn’t that absolutely amazing? Can you see how even quite ordinary seashells, when put together like this, can turn out to be a work of art? Now, my parents “glued” the seashells into a kind of white paste (you will have to ask at a craft store) which dried and the seashells stuck to it. They then had it professionally framed.
I know, this can cost quite a lot of money, but I have to be honest with you: Seeing the result, I doubt if it would have looked similar stunning if just framed with a cheaper frame. Sometimes it pays off to pay a little more, you will enjoy the end result so much more.
I take my hat off to my parents – usually I am the “artistic” one in the family!
The little thoughtful accents around the house are what make it a home. When you are decorating in the beach theme, seashells are really one of the “Must-Haves” when you accessorize throughout your living space. There is so much you can do with one ore two or many seashells:
- make a mirror (like I showed you in a previous blog post),
- fill a nice glass or acrylic vase with sand and place your “findings” from the beach on top, it looks stunning!
- find a nice bowl and fill it with bought (or found) seashells
- place a single big shell in a special spot on a display table
- have pictures of shells on the wall
- and much, much more!
Here is one of my very simple creations; nothing special, I just want to show you how easy it can be:

Flowers On The Beach
It has been a while since I posted on my blog, shame on me! But it is just sometimes the way that life gets way ahead of you and there doesn’t seem to be time for anything anymore. I hope it will get better soon.
Today I quickly wanted to share one of my craft ideas with you. I love to paint and draw, and I found that most times I do so I end up doing some picture of the beach or something related to it (shells etc.).
Even if the resulting pictures might not look overly fantastic just looking at them, quite often when you just put them in a nice frame they look totally transformed.
So don’t be shy, just try and start painting or drawing your favorite beach scenes, and let yourself be surprised at what you can actually create! Plus, when you hang the pictures in your home they can be a point of discussion if you have got friends over to socialize.
I have attached a picture I did in a 3 hour painting course on a holiday in Queensland.
Have fun painting!
O.k., here we go! This is officially my very first blog entry – I guess I have to start somewhere! When I first started this website, I hadn’t really thought a lot about the decor in my house. I was just very interested in everything “beach”, because even just thinking about a beach makes me feel good.
In the process I started having a good look around the house, and I noticed that I DO have a lot of decor items which ARE actually related to the beach theme! I will show you the pieces I have around my house over time.
| One item is actually one of my favorites, and not only because I made it all myself. It is this Seashell Mirror which I have hanging in my hallway now.
I collected the seashells all by myself (good fun!) on a beach in Wilsons Promontory National Park (southern most point of the Australian mainland), and when I got home I cleaned them all, went to the nearest Craft Shop and got a rustic mirror with a wooden frame. I then painted the frame in white so that a little of the wood could still be seen, and stuck the shells on. That’s it! Real easy, and I think the seashell mirror looks great. I love this rustic look, and it is a constant reminder of my holidays, too!
See, it doesn’t have to be hard to be creative with seashells found on the beach. And I find mirrors are always a good way to start adding decor to your house, they really can enhance any room.
I would actually love to hear from anybody who has done some crafty things with items from the beach, as well. We could all get inspiration from sharing our ideas and craft projects.
