O.k., here we go! This is officially my very first blog entry – I guess I have to start somewhere! When I first started this website, I hadn’t really thought a lot about the decor in my house. I was just very interested in everything “beach”, because even just thinking about a beach makes me feel good.
In the process I started having a good look around the house, and I noticed that I DO have a lot of decor items which ARE actually related to the beach theme! I will show you the pieces I have around my house over time.
| One item is actually one of my favorites, and not only because I made it all myself. It is this Seashell Mirror which I have hanging in my hallway now.
I collected the seashells all by myself (good fun!) on a beach in Wilsons Promontory National Park (southern most point of the Australian mainland), and when I got home I cleaned them all, went to the nearest Craft Shop and got a rustic mirror with a wooden frame. I then painted the frame in white so that a little of the wood could still be seen, and stuck the shells on. That’s it! Real easy, and I think the seashell mirror looks great. I love this rustic look, and it is a constant reminder of my holidays, too! See, it doesn’t have to be hard to be creative with seashells found on the beach. And I find mirrors are always a good way to start adding decor to your house, they really can enhance any room. I would actually love to hear from anybody who has done some crafty things with items from the beach, as well. We could all get inspiration from sharing our ideas and craft projects. |

Sea Shells can be very pretty decorations but they need to be used in the right places. For example, in a bathroom they can look great (around a mirror) or on the patio. I’m not sure they would look amazing in the master bedroom however
Thanks for the article, I learned a lot!

I actually don’t think there is anything wrong at all with seashells in the bedroom!

This is a beautiful and classy idea. I love the look of seashells, but I don’t want things I make to look too kid-like. I’m wondering what else you could put with the seashells to create a complimentary look. I have seen great seashell-based potpourri at World Market that might have some items in it that would do well.
